Southampton Road CIL Bid Recommended
Rich House 3 Dec 2018
In the summer Romsey Cycle Hub & other groups gathered infomation in support of a Community Infrastructure Levy bid for the narrow footpath along Southampton Road to be made into a path we can safely & legally cycle along. You may remember taking part in our usage surveys - thank you all who did. The bid was drawn up and submitted by Test Valley Borough Council. £270K of funding for this has now been recommended by the council's planners. A big thank you to TVBC for the work so far on this. TVBC's cabinet will meet on Weds from 17:30 to 19:30 to hopefully approve the bid. The meeting is open to the public should anyone wish to attend. Please see the agenda for more information. CIL is a levy on local housing developments to fund local infrastructure projects. The money is collected together in a pot by councils and allocated to worthwhile schemes. The report recommending this and other bids will be looked at in item 7. If it is approved its not the end of the journey. The report says:
Recommendation – Approve the release of £270,000 towards the Southampton Road shared Pedestrian and Cycle Route. These funds will be held until feasibility work is completed and will only be released if the project is to proceed
