Bid for New Cycle Path Submitted
Rich House 6 July 2018
Last month Southampton Road won the vote for the new cycle path we wish to persue first. I can now announce that Test Valley Borough Council has now submiitted a Community Fund bid for the money needed to make it happen! Thank you TVBC.
Currently there is a narrow footpath alongside Southampton Road between The Rapids and Lee Lane. This route is frequently used by mainly commuters travelling to Southampton. Some use the narrow path, although technically this is illegal. Others use the road. With narrow lanes, heavy traffic and 50mph speeds this stretch is dangerous to cyclists. Motorists find passing cyclists inconvenient.

Our next step is to provide additional evidence in support of the bid. I have been out counting cyclists along the stretch. You may have seen me on Wednesday between 4pm and 7pm catching some rays and some fumes. I counted 38 cyclists, 11 on the path and 27 on the road. That's 27 lives we can remove from peril and 11 we can make legal, less foliage wacked and less puddle splashed! If you'd like to help count you can find a form here. During the 3 hours I did come across one pedestrian. Interestingly he was walking along the narrow verge across the road from the path. TVBC have also been collecting evidence, including from a local ride leader. They plan to submit this next week.
