Romsey Cycle Hub are working as part of the Romsey Future partnership to improve cycle parking in Romsey (see previous article). We met on 8th February and agreed the priorities for the £5K quick win spend on cycle parking. Parking at the Memorial Park, Woodley Stores and Phoenix will be assessed and costed with a view to progressing these first if they prove feasible. Market Place and Bell Street are high priorities, but the plan is to include parking as part of the planned overhauls of these areas.
The top priority was felt to be the Market Place. Cycle parking on the roundabout would be visible, conveniently located, covered by CCTV and non-obstructive to pedestrians. However Market Place is planned to be revamped. As cycle parking should be covered by this work it was felt that the £5K would be better spent elsewhere.
Similarly Bell Street is planned to be overhauled in Jan 2018, so the shortlisted parking near Dukes Mill will be left to then. Romsey Cycle Hub will be involved in the planning of these developments to ensure they support cycling.

Memorial Park (above) is next highest priority. It is a popular destination for cyclists. The Park and cycling are a good fit as both are concerned with healthy outdoor activity. TVBC will now plan and cost the work.

Woodley Stores will also be a high priority . These are well used by cyclists. We hope to encourage people to leave their car at home for trips to their local shops. The stores are next to a large recreation area with a play area, heavily used by children in the vicinity. TVBC will begin looking at the feasibility, land ownership, options & costs. Initial thoughts are to locate the parking near to the Coop. We mill be liaising with these shops to get their backing and buy in. Does anyone have any contacts in these shops?
Our next priority is to add capacity to the parking outside the Phoenix in The Hundred (see home page header photo) as this well known central location is often overflowing.
