Hampshire County Council have drawn up plans to improve the final stretch of canal towpath which connects users between the existing cycle routes beside Fishlake Meadows Road and South to Romsey’s Town Centre and Train Station. The designs are for the path to be widened slightly and re-surfaced with a tarmac finish to ensure good quality year round access.
HCC are currently seeking feedback on the plans. This can be provided by email to [email protected] or to Sam Jones, the Area Access Manager, on 02380 605109 by Wednesday 9th August. Anyone interested can also attend an evening meeting at 6.30pm this Thursday 10th August. It will start at the northern end of the path beside the ramp coming down from to Fishlake Meadows Road. HCC say they are conscious of the need to maintain a semi-rural experience for users. They will be looking to remove existing metal barriers and provide new staggered barriers and signage made from hardwood. They are also seeking additional funding to provide boards explaining the flora and fauna users may see along the path and towards Fishlake Meadows itself. HCC would like to begin work towards the end of September. The plans were discussed at the Romsey Future Coordinating Group meeting on Thursday last week. |
